Lets face it the pitching is getting better. As a pitcher i feel like the batters are at more of a disadvantage because of how far away the hit line is, saw numerous hard hit balls that as a pitcher i would consider a clean single die in the grass and end up being outs/double plays. Moving up the hit line would increase the offense, cause defenders to actually be on their toes not sitting 10 feet from the fence waiting for a ground ball to die at their feet and one hop it into the backstop. Teams would also have to think twice about their alignment as now you can have bloopers fall in if you have two people on both sides of the pitcher rather then one outfielder and one on the line. Five no hitters in week four and a perfect game. I know the pitching has evolved but that's a bit outlandish. Just something to think about maybe for next season wondering what other people think about this as well.

Instead of moving it in perhaps just making it so that center field does not come to a point. Instead, cut off 10'-15' off of the right & left field lines then connect the w/ a line that runs parallel to the bitch line. This way balls hit up the middle 100' are hits & not picked up 5' from the fence as a ground ball. Just food for thought.

As a hitter I would love it, but this has been time tested and works, we arent trying to bolster stats one way or the other. Watch what happens over the season, pitchers will wear down and the hitters will become dominant. There are 3 parts to a season. Weeks 1-4 where pitching dominates, weeks 5-8 where hitters start to catch upo to the pitching and weeks 9-11 where hitters start to really crush worn down pitching.

I was talking about this with a few people at the field yesterday, I forget who. Most likely and if the pitching dominance continues we will see the line moved from 62 to 55 for next year. Regardless of what we decide for next season, you guys should be prepared for the line to move up a foot or two by WEEK SIX or WEEK SEVEN.
More importantly, STARTING NEXT YEAR to complete a ground out or double play the fielder will have to make the throw on a fly. The bouncing and especially rolling of throws into the backstop/zone have always offended me. We will do our best this year to leave tall grass in the area behind the plate to upset any weak throws turning into outs.
As for center field(s)... It would be no problem to move the center field fence in on Field Two, that is if 10 of us agree to dig out the posts and move them up. As for Field One, again if we could get a dozen guys to pitch in I will buy us fence to cut off the point in center field. We could and probably will spend a few thousand on field improvements for 2013. As for how to pay for it... the majority will come from sponsors, but we will enact a new fee starting next year where all players will pay a fee of $150 or $200 to play in the League. Those that participate in a minimum of four hours of field set up/maintenance will have a portion of this fee returned. To be clear, those that participate in volunteering labor will pay $100 to play, those that do not volunteer will pay a fee between $150 & $200. The cutoff for EVERYONE to be paid in full will be sometime in early March 2013.
Proposed projects; finishing off right field fence on Field Two, 100+ yards of top soil to level off Field Two and uneven areas of Field One, cutting branches that hang over right field of Field Two. Possibly getting the field in the north east corner up to playing shape and/or potentially installing a right field fence in what would have been the rookie field. We may get started as early as October 2012 with some of these projects.

The evolution of the Palisades WBL. When I came into this league it was all about the robust averages and the meatball pitching. How the times have changed.

It was moved up Week Six by a few feet. Rules state that we cannot exceed 62 feet, I think we are now at 59. Next season it will be in the 55 foot range. I don't ever want to make any drastic rule changes within the season.

FUCKK ITTTT move it up to 45 feet... REally test the fielders... Guys get bailed out all the time on hard hit ground balls that should be singles and the fielder gets lucky cause it is slowed down so much by the time it gets to them. The batters are not gonna catch up to the pitching... Pitching is legit... its gotten very good. We gotta try and make some changes to try to even it out. I mean the league avg is .150.... Theyre are no easy games that help bolster the stats either. If u cant hit 95 mph pitchers with 5 feet of movement... U cant play I dunno I just hate seeing such low numbers and runs scored.

We can't goto 45, in some cases that would take away the infielder being able to get back to the fence. No matter what we can't any make major changes during the season.

If there is going to be an All Star game, could we have it with 50 foot lines and see how it goes? I guess we would only need one field for the finals, correct? I do not think 55 feet is close enough.

If you move the hit line up to 45 feet you can allow a 4th player on the field to act as an outfielder. Just a thought

Sorry Jordan, there will never be a fourth fielder in the Palisades.
