Q. I want to join
A. That's easy! Show up to one of our free, no obligation, Spring Scrimmages. We will put you on a team and you will play in at least two games, you'll have plenty of opportunity to hit, pitch and field. If you like it attend a second Spring Scrimmage where we will once again put you on a team and you will play in at least two games, you'll have plenty of opportunity to hit, pitch and field. At the end of the day if you want to join the Palisades WBL all you'll need to do is pay a $100 registration fee, give us your phone number and email and sign two waivers and you will be headed to the 2014 Palsiades WBL Draft on April 6, 2014.
Q. When does the season start?
A. Opening Day for our sixth season is Sunday April 27, 2014.
Q. Are the games on weekdays or weekends or both?
A. From Opening Day until the end of August all games are on Sundays. In September all games are moved to Saturday. The earliest a game will start is 10AM and all games are finished by 6PM.
Q. April to September and 10AM to 6PM, that's an awful lot of wiffleball, I've got a job, friends and family. Who has that kind of time?
A. It is not as bad as it sounds. First of all, even though the season is five months long we aren't playing every weekend. Our regular season is only 11 dates, one on the last Sunday in April, followed by two in May, three in June, one in July, three in August and the final date of the season the Saturday following Labor Day Weekend. The following three Saturdays are reserved for the Playoffs. When we say 10AM to 6PM that doesn't mean you get to play for eight hours straight. That just means your team may be scheduled for start times anytime between 10AM and 4:50PM.
Q. If the season's 11 weeks plus playoffs, why not just play 11 straight weeks and get it over with?
A. Your arm will fall off. Since there are absolutely no innings restrictions on pitchers we spread out the schedule to help prevent guys from blowing out their arms. In the past our lengthy season has been very beneficial to rookie players and players that get injured. In most cases the long season gives new guys a chance to practice on off weeks to become a difference maker by August and, we have had guys get injured early only to come back late in the season to lead their team deep into the playoffs.
Q. How many games can I expect to play per day and how many innings are each game?
A. You will play 2 games per day and most if not all of them will be doubler headers. Each team may have one occasion during the season when you will play a game, sit for a game and then play your second game of the day. All playoff series are three game series. Average time of each game is an hour.
Q. Who can join the Palisades WBL?
A. Men 16 years old or older can tryout for the League. We have let guys younger join but they all had prior wiffle league or wiffle tournament experience.
Q. Do I need a team or can I just join as a single player?
A. You don't need a team. Most new players will go through our draft and that is held in April. If you have a team consisting of five or more players you may apply to the League for a franchise. Though most new players join as singles we have allowed one Rookie team to form every season. The greatest hurdle with forming your own team is time. So if you are looking to form a Rookie team please contact the League immediately at,

Q. I really want to join but I don't know anybody, will I fit in?
A. Most of us knew less than three or four players prior to joining the League. Just over 50% of the players who have joined the Palsiades WBL joined as solo players. Though the majority of these players were recruited by a current player, quite a few found us on the web or through local advertising and just showed up to one of our Spring Scrimmages. Whether you have a team, it's you and a friend or you want to join by yourself it is pretty easy to fit in around here.
Q. How do I get drafted?
A. Show up to at least two of the League's Spring Scrimmages and we will put you in the draft on April 6, 2014.
Q. Spring Scrimmage, what when and where?
Spring Scrimmage are a series of exhibition games that at 100% free of charge and in no way obligate you to join the league. All you have to do is show up and we will put you on a team and you will play ball. They will take place every Saturday and Sunday afternoon (1PM-4PM) on the basketball court at Tallman Mountain State Park in Sparkill, NY.

Q. I've seen the videos it doesn't look all that easy?
A. If you played high school ball or beyond fast pitch wiffle is not that tough of a transition. You could probably step right in and after a few games be a decent player, or even Rookie of the Year. If you didn't play ball it takes a month or two of practice to get up to speed. We've all been rookies at one time or another and understand that there's a little bit of a learning curve, so we will always cut new players a little slack. Let's face it, not that many people have heard of fast pitch wiffleball let alone played fast pitch wiffleball, there are only a few leagues nationwide. We really don't expect you to be a great player right off the bat but every year a new crop of rookies surprise us by winning awards or even a championship. You won't ride the bench either. Teams are small and every team wants to develop their rookies, you'll get your playing time, nobody gets drafted to ride the bench. In fact last year the only players that got benched were team owners.
Q. Why don't you use official yellow bat?
A. Right now our batting averages mirror the averages you would see in the MLB and in some cases a little lower. We use a bat very similar in size to a traditional baseball bat. Anything smaller would be futile and for the most part the ball doesn't travel that much further with the bigger bats.
Q. Do you allow scuffing?
A. Scuffing and knifing are OK, in fact they are encouraged.
Q. Why don't you run bases?
A. Besides balls and strikes the most argued call in baseball is bang/bang plays at any given base. We've eliminated that aspect of the game and the need for umpires which saves you money.
Q. Field location?
A. The Palisades WBL has two fields at Cottage Lane Elementary School in Blauvelt, NY. Just a few miles south of the Palisades Mall. ***Spring Scrimmages, during the month of March every Saturday and Sunday afternoon (1PM-4PM) on the basketball court at Tallman Mountain State Park in Sparkill, NY.
