If you go over the fence, isn't that a home run?

Joe Maniscalco makes that catch, clears the fence, does a front flip and then lands in a dismount

If you go over the fence, isn't that a home run? Yeah I thought that'd be a homer too. Wonder what the rule says. Great video Joe. Sick catch either way.

I think if you have possession of the ball in play its still an out. Just as in football the receiver must have 2 feet in bounds, the center fielder caught the ball and hit the wall in play therefore making it an out. idk if this is actually how a catch like that its determined but its just a thought

It is definitely an out.
In baseball, as long as the fielder did not fall to the ground in dead ball territory (or have both feet on the ground in dead ball territory) prior to the catch, the catch is legal and the batter is out. All runners would advance one base in this case if there were less than 2 outs when the catch was made.
In softball, the fielder cannot have any part of their body touching dead ball territory for the catch to be an out. So this catch would be an out in softball also. In baseball a fielder could straddle the dead ball line with one foot in and one foot out and it would be an out. In softball, the fielder has to have not yet touched any part of deadball territory for the catch to be an out.
By the way...Dooly made the sickest wiffleball catch I have ever seen when he hurdled the outfield fence to rob someone of a homerun in a week we played at Tallman early in the season a couple of years ago. It was more impressive than the one in the video in my opinion.

Interesting points Mac, Lanks. Makes a lot of sense that way.

You know what I hate about wiffleball catches like this... It's these plays where there is an outfielder on a field that is smaller than the infield of a baseball field. At least in Palisades you would have to run 50 feet to make one of these plays. This guy essentially took four steps to make this play, big fucking deal. In summation this is an affront to athletes everywhere, conversely I wish I had a cannon arm like that pitcher.
