It's time for our favorite internet game show. You Make The Call! Here is the rule from the 2014 Palisades WBL Rule Book 11.02 A fielder can field a ground ball and then throw the ball hitting the strike zone or backstop to record a ground out, provided, 3. The fielder does not touch the ground with the ball after lifting the ball off the ground. Here is the set up. Down by one run in the top of the fourth with one out and runners on first and second Dodgers superstar Dakota Kenny steps to the plate. Ryan McElrath is on deck. Dodgers down by one run. I'm so disappointed in myself for not arguing more vehemently. Jordan clearly touches the ground with the ball, thereby nullifying any possible out.

Hard to say because we don't use a glove but he had full control and didn't drop it so I'm gonna say double play. If he would have fell and dropped the ball it's obviously a different story

Jordan clearly fields it, stumbles, braces himself with his hands, touches the ball to the ground and then flips to Tom. The ball can't touch the ground once it's been fielded. |

You can click on the photos to enlarge them. Here we see Jordan in the process of fielding the grounder. He fields it without error.  Jordan's momentum from fielding the ball lands him on all fours while touching the ball to the ground. His right hand is holding the ball palm-down, directly touching the ground.  According to the 2014 Rule Book: 3. The fielder does not touch the ground with the ball after lifting the ball off the ground. So because the ball touches the ground after it's been fielded, and not on a throw to the backstop, the play is dead. Single for DK. |

I think that play is good. He clearly has possession of the ball. That should not be the spirit of the rule.

Fine let's just delete the rulebook. Where was the spirit of the rule when Maniscalco and Paraskevas' DP got negated against the Phillies? Why is the spirit of the rule directly related to a team's record? New for this year everyone gets a trophy and we won't play the playoffs so everyone can feel like a winner. I'm not looking to change the outcome of the game I am looking to get the calls right. I didn't see it perfectly, I was sitting and the zone blocked my view otherwise it would have been a single and there wouldn't have been a God damn thing anyone could have said that would have changed my mind.

Look at the fucking video again or buy a pair of glasses. More importantly shut the fuck up during Dodgers games. If your not playing the Dodgers your input is not needed. The pattern is fucking ridiculous and it's been going on for nearly a year now.
If nothing else it was way too big a spot and way too sketchy of a play for anyone to make a definitive call and two people did. So instead of an
incredible bases loaded drama we get a ho-hum DP that's not worthy of five seconds on TMIW because it's not even an out. What's the sense of doing all this if people not even playing steal the moments that make all the work worth while? I would have rather had Kyle "K" Ryan and me back-to-back /w bases loaded on six pitches than what happened. See you Sunday, reluctantly for the first time since August 2011.
I'm done with you guys. I wish I didn't change anyone this year so I could shut it done today. Welcome to every other shit wiffle league in the country, because that's what Palisades is now and I won't waste an extra minute of my time besides this response with mediocrity. I am fucking disgusted with you guys. What the fuck did I ever do to you other than introduce you to a bunch of new friends and entertain you for next to nothing on a Sunday afternoon?

I'm not trying to be an asshole at all by saying my opinion of it. I just look at it as if a guy makes a diving play on a line drive and as he falls (with full possession of the ball) his hand touches the ground does the catch not count? I'm more curious then anything. And my vote has nothing to do with who is playing. I would have said the same thing had the Mariners done it to us last weekend. I think possession should be a factor but I also didn't write the rules

The wrong call was made. Can't go back and change it. Yada yada - agreed. But the confluence of opinions where opinions don't apply, because there's a clearly written rule and a clear misapplication of it, are aggravating. As is the input from people aren't part of the game before their takes are asked for. I should've stood my ground and argued the play was dead after Robles puts the ball to the ground.

There was a play during the tigers/twins game 2 in which Bobby made a diving stab at the ball. The ball was never in his possession but it flipped up to Nick Santana standing at second base awaiting the double play flip. Nick proceeded to throw the ball to the net for a double play. I could argue that there was never possession by Bobby negating the double play but I didn't. I immediately have them the DP for two reasons. 1-In baseball it woulda still been a DP. 2-Bc it was a great play & I was not stripping them of that.
Moral of the story is...Dodgers be bitch'n bc they lost. If they had won the game this thread never woulda been created. Who cares if the call was wrong.
Dodgers been Sandbagg'n since '07. Bout time the rule F'd them.
